MU’s mission is to beautify the city of Montreal by creating murals that are anchored in local communities. At the heart of its approach is the desire to see and experience art on a daily basis, to trigger a social transformation and to turn Montreal into an open-air art MUseum where art and citizens meet. Art awakens the senses, it moves and touches people, art brings about spontaneous and meaningful encounters and sustains our relationship with the city every day. For all these reasons, MU wants art to be seen and to be experienced! By putting the democratization of art at the top of its priorities, MU epitomizes the desire to take back public space through the use of art. The offer throughout the city an open-air art MUseum. “Mu” is the French expression for rejuvenation through the shedding of an old skin. Similarly, MU wishes to bring new life to the walls of the city. MU’s murals are vibrant, eclectic and diversified, evoking emotions on every street corner and allowing us to see Montreal in a different light.
