Die Hunde von Poel – The dogs of Poel
The dogs on the island of Poel have a strange peculiarity. As soon as two meet, they see each other thoroughly under the tail. The reason is as follows. All dogs from Poel used to have the traditional right to receive meat as food from their masters on Sundays.
One day, however, the farmers no longer obeyed this rule and on Sunday they only threw their dogs meager bones to their dogs. Then all the dogs gathered and swam over to the mainland to seek their rights from a judge. They won the trial and were given a record of the verdict.
When they got to the water on their way back, they thought about how they could get the document dry to the other bank. There was no dam back then. So they rolled up the paper and tucked it under the tail of the largest dog. While swimming he lifted it up like a dog and when they got to the other side, the log was no longer there. As much as they searched, it was nowhere to be found. And so it is still today. When two dogs meet on Poel, they see each other under the tail in the hope of finding the valuable document. – The sculpture was donated by the Museum Association Insel Poel
Sagenstraße der Insel Poel – Legend Route of the Island of Poel
The Association of Friends of the History Museum of the Island Poel has compiled many legends of the island of Poel and published them in a brochure. This was well received by locals, tourists and everyone who feels connected to Poel. The action space of the individual sagas extends over almost all villages and areas of the island. The idea of ??the legend route is to design some places where the legends happen in such a way that they become focal points for visitors and, as a whole, become a further attraction on the island. Boulders are set up, to which a board is attached, on which the legend can be read and which may also contain a graphic illustration. As a real attraction, a figurative representation from the content of the legend is to be set up next to it.
