“Saba” by MARCUS DAMM
In 1995, ‘Saba’, an iron sculpture over three meters tall, was erected in front of the entrance to the Richard Drautz Foundation. For the artist Markus Daum, the theme of ‘Man’ in the complex relationship between birth and death has become an existential visual concern. Two bodies, socketed on a rising surface, separated from each other and yet connected, two sculptural formations, like washed-out stones. Nature, reminiscent of something figurative and pointing directly to something essentially human. The intimate affection and love between a sheltered elder, mature and a burgeoning new, adolescent. The impossibility of one without the other. Two principles as a possibility for a humane continuation of life. – Richard Drautz Stiftung
