The streetart photographer Alexej Roth from Heilbronn collected great photos of urban art during a trip to the town of Halle an der Saale, means next to the Saale river. Most of the artworks are located around Landsberg Street at the FREIRAUMGALERIE. For years the buildings around have been abandoned and the area was kind of a lost place. The artists brought life to it again. Not only with amazing paintings all over, there is even an artistic playground area where everybody can add some wood and be part of the creation process. It’s an alternative colorful place which you can admire by looking at, but further more the concept motivates you to take part in creating. Check out the photo gallery.
The FREIRAUMGALERIE is a collective for spatial development and one of the 100 innovative winners in 2018 of the competition “Ausgezeichnete Orte im Land der Ideen“, which means “Excellent locations in the land of ideas”. Under the annual motto “Welten verbinden – Zusammenhalt stärken” (=”Connecting Worlds – Strengthening Cohesion”), the project shows how pioneering innovations in the field through experimentation, curiosity and the courage to rethink urban development can arise art and education.
The “Germany – Land of Ideas” initiative was founded in 2006 on the occasion of the soccer world championship by the federal government and the German economy, represented by the Federation of German Industries (BDI). Meanwhile they supported many projects in different fields throughout the country. Art and Graffiti as well. The urban space gallery at Lansberger Strasse in Halle-Ost was opened in 2012.
The massive vacancy in this area had to be staged in terms of its freedom for the population by designing as many empty houses as possible with urban art such as street art or graffiti. International artists painted the “emptyest street” in color, but all residents also had the opportunity to take part in art workshops and thus help to shape their surroundings themselves.
The results are fantastic master pieces from international stars mixed with local first tryers. That’s how a neighbourhood should look like! Participation was and is in the foreground. In this way, a great urban gallery has now emerged. Due to the innovation and the artistic quality of the works, the FREIRAUMGALERIE has become well known throughout Germany and beyond. – Halle 365

The large-scale murals and fantastic wall drawings are curated and organized by FREIRAUMGALERIE, but there is also a free are with legal walls where everyone can be creative and try out painting.
Artistic Playground
Here are some photos from the artistic playground. There are wood pieces and other materials around, as well there are nails and tools. The message is to take part and add a piece to it. Everybody who is visiting can be part of the creation. It is a playground which can be used as a playground, just play, but at the same time it is an ongrowing artwork itself.
