Lalitpur – Chakupat – Mitra Graffiti Wall – Urban Art Gallery at Dhantil Marg

Along Bangalamukhi Road in the Chakupat district of Lalitpur, there is a magnificent graffiti wall featuring fantastic works in various styles. Especially the KAALO collective carried out two remarkable projects in 2018 and 2021 to support the organizations DIGNITY WITHOUT DANGER and DALIT LIVES MATTER. The SHADES collective also left behind a fantastic piece as a tribute to the movie Qala. In between are writing pieces, bombings, tags and streetart. Check out this great open air urban art gallery!

Kathmandu – Thamil – Old Monastery Thanka and Art Painting School – KUMAR LAMA & KUSFU TAMANG

We visited the artist and art teacher KUMAR LAMA at his art school OLD MONASTERY THANKA AND ART PAINTING SCHOOL, and spoke with him about his creative space and the art presented. Currently 45 teachers work there and more than 100 students are taking part at the program. Also joining the interview was KUSFU TAMANG, who is an artist herself but also works at the art project. This space is an art education program that has been in operation for many generations.

Kathmandu – Buddhanagar – Babarmahal Snooker House Graffiti Wall

In the Buddhanagar district of Kathmandu, on Rajesh Marg along the Dhobi Khola River, there is a snooker hall called Babarmahal Snooker House. The exterior walls of this building and the adjacent ones are covered with graffiti; especially the PSD CREW was active here, as well the artist SAADHUX left a great character szenario. There are also some wall works inside, and streetart can also be found on other buildings along the road.

Bharatpur Streetart Festival – Urban Art Event by My Friend’s Hostel, Spacio & Nepalu

The first phase of the BHARATPUR STREET ART FESTIVAL took place from 8th to 15th February in 2026. However, this was only the pilot of this extensive project; plans are in place to paint many more walls, ideally at all schools in the city, and then, following a successful implementation, to launch the master project: The painting of the large Pulchowk Narayani Bridge. This could thus become the country’s largest urban artwork and a creative landmark of the city. This amazing festival project is organized by MY FRIEND’S HOSTEL, NEPALU and SPACIO.

Bharatpur – Graffiti and Urban Art Collection – BFTS, KAMERO & DYNAMIC TATTOOS

On this page we focus on graffiti and urban art around Bharatpur. The city is home to the legendary BFTS CREW, aka BORN FOR THE STREET, which formed around the master and tattoo icon DHUKUSH. The group is meanwhile active in many fields, ranging from graffiti, tattoos, and clothing to skateboarding, BMX, breakdancing and music genres like rap and punk. To support this movement, they founded their own label, KAMERO, which also operates its own shop in the Old Bazaar.

Kundopole is a densely built neighborhood in the northern part of Lalitpur and is considered a local residential and commercial area outside the main tourist hubs. In the streets you can encounter interesting urban artworks of various forms; especially the SATTYA MEDIA ARTS COLLECTIVE created two of its works here as part of the KOLOR KATHMANDU project and also several walls were painted by the former ART LAB collective, which meanwhile no longer exists anymore, but the involved artists have formed new crews such as TAG THEORY or the KOR ARTS COLLECTIVE

Pokhara – Lakeside – Rolling Stones Graffiti Wall

The Rolling Stones Rock Bar is one of the most famous live music venues in Pokhara, located on Lakeside Road. It was founded around 2017 and quickly became a central gathering place for rock music fans as well as for local and international musicians. In addition to nearly daily concerts, the space as well hosts DJ sets and parties. Graffiti enthusiasts will also find plenty to enjoy here, as the small alley leading to the entrance is adorned with several graffiti and streetart pieces. Kathmandu – Dharahara Concept Mural Wall – Sundhara Road

In 2024 the KATHMANDU METROPOLITAN CITY launched an official mural program in collaboration with the NEPAL ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS. Artists were selected and commissioned by the city to paint these murals and a fantastic concept wall has also been created along Sundhara Road near the Dharahara Tower, featuring cultural motifs depicting the city’s people and historic landmarks. Additional works can be found at Saraswati Park or in the neighborhoods of Maitighar, Babar Mahal, Min Bhawan, Baneshwor and Lainchour.

Kathmandu – Boudha – Graffiti and Urban Art around Boudhanath Stupa

The Boudha neighborhood around the Boudhanath Stupa in northeastern Kathmandu is one of the most important Buddhist centers in Nepal. It is strongly influenced by Tibetan culture, as many Tibetan refugees have settled here since the 1950s. The neighborhood is densely built and relatively small in size, but it serves as a major religious, cultural, and economic hub. The Boudhanath Stupa is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the largest stupas in the world. Kathmandu – Dasarath Rangasala Stadium – Kanti Path Concept Wall

On the west side of the Dasarath Rangasala Stadium along the street Kanti Path in Kathmandu, a long mural depicting various sports was completed in 2024. The project was carried out in collaboration between the KATHMANDU METROPOLITAN CITY and the NEPAL ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS, which oversaw the artistic coordination and selected local artist teams. Work began in spring 2024 and was completed by late autumn that year. The long wall painting features various sports genres, but as well local children plays or traditional activities and board games.

Sanepa is a neighborhood in the northwestern part of Lalitpur, located along the Bagmati River at an elevation of approximately 1.310 meters. In the streets you can encounter interesting urban artworks of various forms; for instance the SATTYA MEDIA ARTS COLLECTIVE created one of its works here as part of the KOLOR KATHMANDU project, and the neighborhood was also home to the former ART LAB collective, but ROG with DEEP SOCIETY is now launching new projects in the premises; it also houses the creative clothing label and café space KASHYAPI.

Lalitpur – Streetart Jawalakhel – Graffiti and Urban Art Collection

Jawalakhel is a lively and diverse neighborhood in Lalitpur, located in the heart of the Kathmandu Valley. Its name roughly means “barley field,” reflecting its agricultural past, although today it is a busy urban area and an important center for daily life, restaurants, bars and trade. Culturally interesting is the Rato Machhindranath Jatra, one of the most important traditional festivals in the region. During this event, a large decorated chariot is pulled through the streets, accompanied by rituals, music, and crowds of devotees. You can also find a lot of great urban artworks around the neighbourhood.

Chakupat is a traditional neighborhood in the Kathmandu Valley shaped primarily by the Newar community, whose way of life, festivals, and architecture define the streetscape. Typical of Chakupat are narrow, winding alleys, closely packed brick houses with intricately carved wooden windows, and numerous small temples, shrines, and courtyards, the so-called “bahals”, which serve as social and religious gathering places. Pulchowk is a neighborhood in Lalitpur, also known as Patan, in the Kathmandu Valley and a central urbanized area that plays an important role in the city’s modern development. The neighbourhood is known for the major engineering campus of Tribhuvan University and the Pulchow Campus since the 1970s. But in between there are also tiny neighborhoods, which the KAALO COLLECTIVE has taken on in its project MⒺTA-मोRPH-OSIS with several magnificent urban artworks. Also the FEARLESS COLLECTIVE created an amazing mural in that area.

Sauraha – Urban Art at the Door to the Chitwan National Park

Sauraha is a small village on the edge of Chitwan National Park in Nepal and is one of the gateways for exploring the wildlife reserve. It is part of the Ratnanagar municipality, and safaris depart from here through dense jungle and grasslands where visitors can spot rhinos, crocodiles, and with some luck even tigers. In addition to nature, a small streetart scene has also developed. Colorful murals adorn houses, hotels, and restaurants, often featuring animal motifs from the national park or traditional patterns of the region.

Here we have a collection of streetart pieces from the Thamel district in Kathmandu. These include graphic murals, characters, and calligraphy, which is often found here in beautiful, intricate detail. In the northern part of Kathmandu’s Thamel district, there is a graffiti wall featuring some impressive pieces. It is a collaboration among several artists, including characters inbetween. The wall runs along the eastern side of Amrit Marg all the way to the intersection with Tridevi Sadak. Those photos were taken during the election day, therefore almost no vehicles were allowed on the streets, which means it was possible to photograph the whole wall without obstacles.

These aren’t elaborate graffiti pieces or complex writing featuring multiple colors and outlines, but rather simple, quick pieces that are often done overnight. A throw-up is a graffiti painted in a single, continuous stroke without lifting the can. It’s larger and more substantial than a simple tag, but less stylized than a proper graffiti piece.

In Kathmandu and Patan, you often see small stone or terracotta tiles with religious motifs placed near house entrances.
