Zadar is located on a peninsula on the Dalmatian coast and has approximately 70.000 inhabitants. The Roman and Venetian ruins in the old town are well worth seeing, such as the historic city walls with their gates, the Roman forum, the 11th-century St. Mary’s Monastery, the 12th-century Cathedral of St. Anastasia, and the 9th-century pre-Romanesque round church of St. Donatus.
