SPAIN: Streetart Ibiza – Cala d’en Serra – Abandoned Urbex Hotel – Lost Place Graffiti

When people think of Ibiza, the first things that come to mind for most are luxury clubs and picturesque beaches. But away from the glossy tourist scene, a very vibrant graffiti and streetart culture has taken root on the island, often flourishing in secret. In particular, the island’s many abandoned sites and ruins serve as giant open-air canvases for local and international graffiti artists.

One of the most impressive and fascinating places of this kind is located in the north of the island at Cala d’en Serra. There stands the gigantic ruin of a luxury hotel designed in the 1970s by the famous architect Josep Lluís Sert. Due to political opposition during the Franco era, a lack of building permits, and ultimately the architect’s death, the complex was never completed.

What was once intended to be a flagship architectural project is now a legendary abandoned site. Over the decades, the bare concrete skeleton has been completely taken over by the graffiti scene and transformed into an ever-changing open-air gallery. The artwork there ranges from classic tags and rough throw-ups to extremely elaborate murals that span multiple floors or wind through intricate architectural fragments. The combination of raw, crumbling concrete, the bright colors of the artwork, and the breathtaking, untamed natural backdrop of the bay creates an unparalleled aesthetic.
