CHILE: Streetart Angol - Avenida Bernardo O'Higgins 688 - KARZON

In 1933, the evangelical church in this region of Chile followed the leadership of Willis C. Hoover, adopting the name Evangelical Pentecostal Church (IEP from its Spanish language name). One of the church’s unique features related to its location is that its official address is 688 Bernardo O’Higgins Avenue, although the entrance is on Rancagua Street.

Nearly 10 years ago, the previous pastor, who has since passed away, asked KARZON to paint a mural on the exterior of the church to enhance it appearance and beauty. KARZON unleashed his imagination and experience to create a landscape with trees, volcanoes, and rivers, including the endemic flora and fauna of this part of Chile.

Given the time that has passed since the mural’s creation and lack of care it has received, KARZON’s work is quite deteriorated in some sections. But thankfully, there are still sections of the mural that retain their vibrant and clear colors, especially the section behind the bus stop, which has helped protect it from the sun and rain.

KARZON offered to repair the mural to the new pastor, restoring it to its original condition. Unfortunately, the pastor didn’t appreciate the artistry and felt that spending money to restore the mural wasn’t a priority for his church. Thanks God, these photos will allow future generations to appreciate the impeccable technique and use of color by the artist KARZON , who was born here in Angol.
