SPAIN: Streetart Archena – Graffiti and Urban Art Collection

Archena is a small town in the Region of Murcia in southeastern Spain, located in the fertile Ricote Valley along the Segura River. Today, the town has a population of around 19.000 and is best known for its historic thermal baths, whose hot springs were already used by the Romans. However, Archena’s history goes back even further: Archaeological finds indicate settlement dating back to the Copper Age, more than 4.000 years ago. Among the most important sights are the famous Balneario de Archena, the Church of San Juan Bautista, the historic Villarrías Palace, and the long walking paths along the Segura. Of course, you’ll also find color in the streets and beautiful urban art. The following photos were taken by the NOMADS ON WHEELS.

„Tribute to Inocencio Medina Vera“  –  Centro Cultural Ramón Centenero  –  2018  –  CARLOS CALLIZO

Inocencio Medina Vera was a Spanish artist from Archena in the Murcia region who became known in the late 19th and early 20th centuries for his vivid depictions of everyday life. He worked as a painter, illustrator, and caricaturist, creating drawings and magazine covers for well-known Spanish publications of his time. Many of his works portrayed rural traditions and local customs from Murcia, reflecting the culture and people of his homeland. He also spent part of his life in Buenos Aires, where he worked as a portrait painter. Medina Vera died in 1918 during the Spanish flu pandemic, but he is still regarded today as an important figure in early 20th-century regional Spanish art.

This great mural by artist and professor CARLOS CALLIZO honoring Inocencio Medina Vera in Archena was unveiled on 16th December 2018. The official opening took place as part of the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of Inocencio Medina Vera’s death. The massive mural is located on the façade of the Ramón Centenero Cultural Center.
