Harstad is a town in the province of Troms in northern Norway with a population of around 21.000. Worth seeing are the Tv-Tårnet observation tower, the Trondenes Center on the history of the Vikings, and the Trondenes Church, the world’s northernmost medieval stone church, built around 1250. It is located directly on the waterfront and is a historical landmark of the region. Not to be forgotten are the Folkeparken, the idyllic fjords, and the natural spectacle of the Northern Lights, which can be seen well from October to March. But the city offers not only colorful skies, but also colorful walls in the streets. Every year, the large music, theater, and art festival FESTSPILLENE I NORD NORGE, also known as the ARCTIC ARTS FESTIVAL, takes place here, and urban artworks by local artists are created for the occasion.
