SOUTH AFRICA: The Grind Radio & Jade Wood – Pretoria

If you are a journalist and you go into the jungle you can find the strangest things. For example other journalists. But sometimes these other journalists are more interesting than the jungle at the moment. Some kind of these meetings happened in Ciudad del Este in Paraguay near the Iguazu Waterfalls this spring. Coincidental at the same time when we stood there in a mansion there was as well the journalist, national-geographic writer and co-founder of The Grind Radio: Jade Wood from South Africa.

If you are interested in the country on the bottom of the African Continent, especially its music, the parties, cultural events and the local artists, so this article here is something for you. In an interview Jade Wood tells us about the origins of the radio station from the start as a little show with DJs and first live broadcastings in the backroom of a bar and the story how it developed to the nice working and famous The Grind Radio Station with a huge and efficient working artist network.

Of course there is a Live-Stream, you can find a lot of podcasts on the website, as well there is plenty of really good information, well researched, and heaps of articles with pictures about self-visited events and nicely done interviews with many artists. Mostly done without getting paid for anything…. but done because it´s fun. Actually it reminds me a lot of Radio X in Frankfurt. You can find all types of good music, they have studio guests, talk shows and thematically input. If you are there for holidays or you are going to stay in the country, check out the website, it is definitely a good source for information about interesting music, theater, movies and art from South Africa.

Jade Wood has some other freelance work and projects. For getting information about cultural stuff, you should as well know about her more personal artist blog which is called Kombi Nation. There you can find some more detailed articles, nice interviews, comments and as well information from abroad the country. And there you can find for example as well a link to us to Vagabundler…. Thanx Jade !!!
