Agüimes is a historic town in the east of the Spanish island of Gran Canaria, founded in 1491 as a bishopric and with around 33.000 inhabitants today. It is known for its well-preserved architecture and as the cultural center of the region. Worth seeing are the historic old town with its numerous sculptures, the monumental Parroquia de San Sebastián church from the Classicist period, and the nearby Barranco de Guayadeque gorge with its inhabited cave houses and cave restaurants. Beautiful nature and erosion landscapes can be found in the Barranco de Las Vacas, which is often compared to Antelope Canyon due to its rock formations. And of course, there are also fantastic works of art in the urban space!
