The Sinchon Graffiti Tunnel is located in the Seodaemun-gu district of Seoul and is a 65-meter-long and 4.5-meter-high pedestrian tunnel between Ewha Womans University and Yonsei University with its Severance Hospital. The legal spray site is also known as the “Sinchon Rabbit Hole”, which describes the passageway quite well. The easiest route to reach the site is via the Gyeongui Line to Sinchon Station. The graffiti hot spot is adorned with graffiti from top to bottom and new ones are constantly being added on top of the old ones. Without the colorful paint, the tunnel would certainly be intimidating, but now the creative wall paintings and spray can works give a lively and artistic atmosphere.
The tunnel became really famous in 2016 when it was used as a filming location for a scene in the K-drama “Goblin – The Lonely and Great God”. This was followed by further appearances in the Korean films “While You Were Sleeping” and “Touch Your Heart”, which earned it even more cult status. The tunnel has been redesigned several times, LED lights and wooden steps have been installed, but the most interesting feature is certainly the regularly changing graffiti, resulting in a dynamic and always changing visual experience. Unfortunately, when we were there, a certain strange artist had defaced and destroyed the entire tunnel along with the fantastic works, a very disrespectful action. Fortunately, we received some additional photos from the artist MAD DUCK, who paints very actively in the tunnel and often organizes spray sessions.
