„We Are One“ – YI CHUL HEE

The two faces in the work have been runited, showing that they together have become one. The bear side of the work depicts the tragedy and the suffering of our nation in history. The bright smiles in the front part of the work express our hopes for peace.

The Pipe Technique was inspired by a needle of a syringe. The idea of this artwork was born through the extreme suffering of the past dozens of injections. The creation of this work was repeated many times through trial and error. It is a similar process to advancing the inter-Korean dialougue in today’s world of pain and suffering. Thousands of different pipes come together to create facial features that represent the way tens of millions of people gather together to declare their wishes for peace. Its creations brings sight of relief.

If this would help to peace relations between the Koreas, I would like to donate this work to Pyongyang and it would be placed in a location that they truly love. Finally I would like to deeply thank those who have helped us make this exhibition a reality. The sculpture was made with aluminium pipes and stainless steel in 2018. – YI CHUL HEE
