Silves is a town in the Algarve with around 10,000 inhabitants and is located on the Rio Arade. Worth seeing are the Castelo dos Mouros castle with an ancient bronze sculpture of King Sancho I, the three-aisled Sé Cathedral from 1189, the late Gothic Cross of Portugal or the Roman bridge Ponte Velha.
