With 31,000 inhabitants, Lagos is the largest city in the west of the Algarve in southern Portugal. It is known for its beautiful and colorful old town with the historic city wall, its cliffs and its famous Atlantic beaches such as Ponta da Piedade. Also worth seeing are the Forte da Ponta da Bandeira, the Lagos Castle, the idyllic marina and the Plaza Infante Dom Henrique with the church of Santa Maria de Lagos.
