Leszno is a beautiful, medium-sized town in south-western Greater Poland (Wielkopolska), near the border with Silesia. This proximity to the border had a great influence on the character of the city as a place with many nationalities and cultures. Today it is the center of administration, economy, education and culture in the region. The name of the town „Leszno“ comes from the hazelnut, whose bushes give tasty nuts and which overgrown the local jungle centuries ago. The origins of Leszno go back about 500 years and it was founded as a private town of the powerful magnate family Leszczyński. Leszno had been destroyed several times in its history by wars and fires, but it was rebuilt every time. Today’s Leszno has almost 65 thousand inhabitants. Many open-air events are organized throughout the year, including the Glider Picnic, the Leszno Days, the Leszno Baroque Plus music festival, the Return of the King festival and the Leszno Delights. The City Theater, which is the first new public theater in Poland in 40 years, has also been operating here since 2016. The city is also peppered with grandiose murals and beautiful street art. Photographer Agnieszka Pisarska has put together a collection of the greatest works. With art from OTECKI, EJSMONDT, HELLO ART, ANIA SZEJDEWIK, MIKOLAJ REJS and many more.
