The independent city of Bydgoszcz in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship has around 350,000 inhabitants, making it the eighth largest city in Poland. Worth seeing is the Cathedral of St. Martin, the Basillica, the Exploseum or the Fontana Potop. But much more interesting are the meanwhile numerous large-scale murals and colorful urban artworks in the streets. Here is a collection of beautiful creations by photographers AGNIESZKA PISARSKA from Wroclaw, Poland and MAZZANTI from Stockholm, Sweden. Kazimierz Wielki – Kasimir the Great – PAIN
Within the framework of competitions for murals in Bydgoszcz, announced by the city administration, this great mural at Jagiellońska Street 36 was painted by dealing with the history of the city. In 2017 the artist BARTEK BUJANOWSKI aka PAIN created the work “Kazimierz”, which refers to the Bydgoszcz legend “About Kazimierz the Great and Beautiful Bydgoszcz”. The story tells about an encounter between King Kazimierz the Great and an archer named Bydgoszcz.

This wonderful mural was created as part of the Bydgoszcz Wciąga Legendarnie series (=”Addictive Legendary”) prepared by the On / Off Agency. This fantastic mural was created by the group CITY2CITY in 2009 on the wall of the building at 3 Maja Street 16. It is titled “Piotrus Pan” or in English “Peter Pan” and represents the world of this fairy tale character who can fly and never wanted to grow old. Tribute to Jadwiga Szopieraj – SEPC
This unique mural is a tribute to the photographic and film pioneer JADWIGA SZOPIERAJ (1908 – 1975) and was created by the artist SEBASTIAN JIMENEZ aka SEPC . It is located on the back wall of a tenement house at Swietojanska Street 17 and you can see it actually in the photo negative version. You can see the mural in positive only after reversing the colors, then the mural’s surroundings will be in negative. Fantastic!

Przeżyjemy w Teatrze – We survive in Theater – JAKUB WOYNAROWSKIEGO
This mural on the walls of the local Hieronim Konieczka Polish Theater was created by the artist JAKUB WOYNAROWSKIEGO in 2015 as part of the programs “Free the mural” and “We survive in theater” on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of public theater in Poland. The campaigns were supported by the Zbigniew Raszewski Theater Institute from Warsaw.

JULIAN NOWICKI
This historic memorial mural made by the artist JULIAN NOWICKI is located at the intersection of Gdańska and Cieszkowskiego Streets and commemorates JOSEF SWIECICKI, an important builder and architect from Poland and especially for the city. The original photographs for the basis of the mural were taken by O.EWALD. The magnificent mural was officially inaugurated on October 30th in 2018.

Tribute to Marian Rejewski – EWELINA OSMÓLSKA & MAREK IWIŃSKI
Marian Adam Rejewski was a Polish mathematician and cryptologist. In 1932 he laid the foundations for the cryptanalysis of the German encryption machine Enigma and thus for deciphering the radio messages that the German military used to encrypt with it during the Second World War.
