(4) Le Amiche – The Girlfriends
In the early stages of his career, Michelangelo Antonioni chose Turin to depict modern upper burgeois life, drawing inspiration from a novel by Cesare Pavese. The film won the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival, an important aknowledgement for both the director and screenwriters Suso Cecchi D’Amico and Alba De Cespedes. The elegant Piazza San Carlo, and in particular the liberty elegance of one of Turin’s historic cafes, are the backdrop to the story. – TORINO CITTÁ DEL CINEMA 2020
