After the great first art event “Festival de Artes y Oficios” in 2023 this year the second edition took place in the historical building complex of the Maestranza Barón. The event was organized by the MARGINAL GALERIA and LA HOGUERA and all the collected funds during the happening went to families affected by the wildfires in Viña del Mar.
Once the Maestranza Barón was a fundamental pillar of the city’s industrial boom during the 19th century. Different trades related to the railroad business were part of the economic and social impulse of Valparaíso, at a time when productive activity was involved in social development. After the cessation of railway activities in the late twentieth century and the total abandonment of the building, a group of local organizations, linked to cultural development from sports and the arts, started to inhabit and manage the area and to carrying out actions from various disciplines with the aim of recovering this emblematic space.
LA HOGUERA is one of the event organizers and operates as an art space and as well as a trade school where carpentry, performing arts, visual arts, textiles and cooking converge. Located on the second floor of the administrative building of the former Maestranza de Barón, it is a work space for the collectives and individuals that make it up and also a learning space for the entire community. Also installed in the old workshops of the Maestranza Complex are the Tornamesa Climbing Center, the Espacio Maestranza Training Center, the Enaires Aerial Arts Space and the Theater Cultural & Teatro Container. Continously they develop their projects seeking to revitalize the space by opening it to the public. – Andrea del Pino & Maestranza Barón
