CHILE: Streetart Angol – Stencil Collection – Artworks throughout the city

Stencils are found throughout the city of Angol, in the most incredible places and corners. Many of those stencils have a political connotation, such as those related to the International Women’s Day (8m or March 8th), which are scattered across many walls in Angol. There is a stencil against the Discovery of America on 12th October 1492. There is also an enigmatic stencil of Che Guevara. We also found a stencil against Rodrigo Hinzpeter, a former Minister of the Interior under President Piñera.

Stencils are everywhere, like here below the Covadonga Street sign. We also found several stencils of GREEMS. There are other characters, lions and horses, and a small monkey that could be the Monito del monte, an endemic marsupial. Chile is the only country in South America without monkeys or primates within its borders. Additionally, various stencils on a corrugated metal wall.

GraffitiPreBicentenario helped by providing images of stencils photographed in Angol before 18th September 2010, which is Chile’s Bicentennial date. We see stencils of Bob Marley painted on different colors over a metal door. We also find from that period the Monito del monte, elusive marsupial endemic to southern Chile. The next stencils are advocating for veganism and against the killing of animals for food. The other stencils from the period before the bicentennial are open to many interpretations.
