„Organización y Unidad“ – „Organization and Unity“
This mural was created in the new Parque Las Rocas neighborhood on 23rd August 2026. It was painted to commemorate the organization and solidarity with which the community faced the floods that occurred earlier that same month, floods that saw Angol experience historic inundation caused by an intense weather front affecting the entire Araucanía region. The primary event was the overflowing of the Rehue River, which left more than 500 homes flooded in areas such as the La Alborada, Los Ríos, and Parque Las Rocas neighborhoods, among others places situated near the river.
The design and layout of the mural were created by the artist KATRALAEXPUNK. There was food, drinks and snacks while neighbors painted the mural. Also the creative day was accompanied by music of the artists TAMARA QUIJADA and YOANY FIGUEROA PACHECO from SOUTH FELLAS. This was organized as an initiative by the organization COORDINADORA NAWELFUTXA to raise awareness that, by standing together, we can always move forward. Plus the mural now adorns and beautifies this new neighborhood in Angol.
The photos of the neighborhood’s construction date from 2023 onwards and show the development of Parque Las Rocas. Although the photos show the Rehue River at a distance from the neighborhood, the rise in water levels was so severe that the ground floors of some houses were flooded. The second-to-last photo shows sandbags stacked like a wall to prevent the water from flooding the residents’ homes again.
