Allegory to the Nahuelbuta National Park by Artehaga Colectivo
Nahuelbuta means in Mapudungun or Mapuche language, big tiger. Nahuelbuta provides habitat for a variety of flora and fauna, with the particularity that most of these species are endemic. For example, you can find (as it shown in the graffiti) the mountain lion, the pudú (a small Chilean deer) and the Darwin’s fox. Among the birds are the black woodpecker and the chucao. Also, the Darwin’s frog, the “monito del monte” or colocolo opossum (also called chumaihuén in Mapudungun), a small marsupial. And of course, the imposing Araucaria araucana or Pehuén, the Chilean pines that cover most of Nahuelbuta.
