AUSTRALIA: Streetart Cairns – Graffiti and Urban Art Collection

Cairns is a city in northern Queensland with around 150.000 residents in the urban area and it was established in the late 19th century as a port serving nearby gold and tin mining operations and later the sugar industry. In the 20th century the city grew into a key commercial and logistics hub and became an important military base in the Pacific during World War II. Today, it is best known as a gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and tropical northern Australia. Beyond tourism, Cairns has developed a growing urban art scene, with murals and public artworks playing an increasingly visible role in the cityscape. Many works reference Indigenous culture, tropical landscapes, and regional identity, often created in collaboration with local communities. A major platform for Indigenous contemporary art is the CAIRNS INDIGENOUS ART FAIR, which showcases Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and has become an important national cultural event. The CAIRNS FESTIVAL also contributes to the city’s public art culture through installations, performances, and street-based art projects. Alongside this, local artist collectives and mural initiatives supported by institutions such as the TANKS ART CENTRE. Here we have a collection of great urban artworks photographed by graffiti hunter and streetart lover MAZZANTI. Check out her instagram channel, where she regulalry presents great pictures from Sweden and from other countries all over the world.
