This bus stop, decorated by artists RAMS and PAULA AURORA, features two wild edible mushrooms found in the Araucanía region. At the bottom of the bus stop, the “changle” (Ramaria flavo-brunnescens) is depicted; it resembles ranching marine coral with yellow tips and grows on the forest floor of native woodlands. The other mushroom shown is the “digúeñe” (Cyttaria espinosae), a parasitic fungus that grows directly on the trunks and branches of trees, such as the “roble” (native oak), which is painted on the sides of the bus stop, showing the branches on the top where the “digüeñe” blooms.
This project by RAMS and PAULA AURORA aimed not only to showcase the natural environment of the Araucanía region but also to highlight a fundamental aspect of local culture: specifically, the use of these wild mushrooms in the local cuisine. For example, the “digúeñe” is primarily consumed fresh and raw, whereas the “changle” is a versatile ingredient used sautés and stews.
