These photographs were taken in September 2009. By that time, ALAPINTA was no longer just painting in the streets of Temuco, which is 680 km south of Santiago, but had already set out to conquer the world.
In Chile’s pre-bicentennial period, ALAPINTA already operated as a professional muralist team, adhering to certain concepts that brought them fame: their works began to strongly reflect Mapuche iconography, as well as the flora and fauna of the Araucanía region. More than just graffiti artists, ALAPINTA positioned itself as a design and management team dedicated to transforming the face of cities.
This mural in Santiago embodies the values of the Araucanía region: a Mapuche woman riding a puma; Mapuche totems at sunset; fantastical flowers and vegetation. The ALAPINTA tag is visible on the puma’s belly.
