„Urban Jungle“ – June 2024

The artist about the project: „From blind wall to eye-catcher for the Sarphatibuurt. This mural was created in June 2024 on the side facade Sarphatistraat 163 in Amsterdam. It is titled „Urban Jungle“ and shows a boy looking forward to his future in the city. From a small safe environment to high school in the Urban Jungle of Amsterdam. What the future will bring. Being one with the nature around us and providing an environmentally conscious attitude to life. A mural is one way to contribute to the attractiveness and livability of a neighborhood. Urban Jungle transforms the boring blind wall into an optimistic eye-catcher for residents and passersby. The buildings on Sarphatistraat 163 – 213 belong together. They were built and designed by architect H.P. Berlage in 1908 and have been a municipal monument since 2005. On the spot of the mural there was a corner building but this was demolished years ago. Now here is the passage from Sarphatistraat to the Roeterseiland Campus of the UvA. The mural was possibl with thanks to The City of Amsterdam, The Amsterdam Fund for the Arts (AFK) and Woonstichting Lieven de Key.“ – TIM RODERMANS
