Seattle is also notable for its vibrant urban art scene, with murals and public artworks shaping the city’s visual identity. One example is the MONORAIL COLUMN MURAL PROJECT, where the concrete pillars of the Seattle Monorail have been transformed into large-scale artworks, blending infrastructure with creativity. Spaces like BASE CAMP STUDIOS or MUROS support artists and provide room for creative production, while the local agency URBAN ARTWORKS organizes projects with young people to develop artistic and social skills through mural painting. Tribute to Sue Bird – #10forever – Seattle Storm – CRAIG CUNDIFF

The legendary WNBA point guard SUE „BIRD“ JERSEY retired in 2022 as the all-time leader in assists and games played, accumulating 5 Olympic Gold Medals, 4 WNBA championships, and a record 13 All-Star appearances in 21 seasons played. The team Seattle Storm did Bird justice by dedicating a full three days of celebrations before lifting her banner in Climate Change Arena. As part of the weekend-long slate of activities, they also unveiled a tribute mural in Belltown created by CRAIG CUNDIFF.

Monorail Column Mural Project – July 2023 – BRADY BLACK

In July 2023 the Seattle Monorail Services has partnered with Seattle Center and the City of Seattle’s Office of Economic Development to showcase local art on the historic Seattle Center Monorail guideway columns and to celebrate the MLB All Star Week. The MONORAIL COLUMN MURAL PROJECT is part of the city’s efforts to support the economic and cultural recovery of downtown Seattle by activating the 5th Avenue corridor. Artworks are located on 14 monorail columns along 5th Avenue between Broad Street and Pine Street. Here we show you artworks by BRADY BLACK, but there are several more pieces made by different creators.
