CHILE: Streetart Angol – Vergara 625

This mural by an unknown artist is very enigmatic. On the one hand it represents nature and the cycle of life. On the other hand, the geography of what is Chile.

This hermaphrodite being is accompanied on the left by the sun and the volcanoes of southern Chile. The human figure represents the Mallmapu, which is the name for the ancestral territory of the Mapuche people. The thick forests, the snowy mountains covered with Araucaria trees are clearly appreciated; and the waterfalls that are throughout the Araucanía Region.

Being a hermaphrodite also could represent the generous Pachamama, who is a goddess revered by the indigenous people of the Andes. It reflects this in the abundance of corn, pumpkins, forests and wildlife, expressing its generosity with those who care for and protect it.

On the right side you can see the moon and the Pacific Ocean. The generous rain that the sea blows towards the mountain range is appreciated, turning the mountain range into the place where they remain as snow. The cycle of life is complete.

In addition, this graffiti also represented what Chile is: a strip of land between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. In that small strip of land, the rivers quickly seek the sea, generously giving life and biodiversity to that land.
