USA: Streetart Skagway - Alaska - Urban Art in Klondike Gold Rush Town

Skagway is a small town in southeastern Alaska with a population of around 1.200 and became famous during the Klondike Gold Rush in the late 19th century, when the town was an important staging point for gold prospectors on their way to Canada. The settlement was founded, among others, by the pioneer William Moore, who recognized its strategic location as a gateway to the interior. Before the arrival of settlers, the region was home to the Tlingit people, whose culture and traditions remain visible throughout the region to this day and are increasingly being honored. Among the most important attractions is the historic White Pass & Yukon Route railway, which once transported gold prospectors over the mountains and today offers spectacular views as a tourist attraction. Equally significant is the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park, which preserves the history of this era, as well as the famous Chilkoot Trail, which was once one of the most important routes for gold seekers. The historic “Broadway” street, with its old wooden buildings, also conveys an authentic picture of the gold rush era. Colorful urban artworks can also be found in the streets. The Mountain Shop & Packer Expeditions – TIM BOURCY

The mural on the facade of The Mountain Shop & Packer Expeditions in Skagway, Alaska, was created by artist TIM BOURCY. In addition to designing this artwork, the artist is also the founder of Packer Expeditions, a company established in 1992 that specializes in guided hiking and glacier tours in the Skagway area. The mural reflects the pioneering spirit and rich history of the region, which is closely tied to the legacy of the Klondike Gold Rush.
