The urban art project BELLTOWN CORRIDOR in the Seattle is a streetart initiative launched by JOE NIX that transformed an otherwise ordinary alley in the Belltown neighborhood into an open-air gallery. The roughly one-block-long lane between 2nd and 3rd Avenue has been covered with large-scale murals by both international and local artists since 2016. JOE NIX curated the project in collaboration with ARTXIV and deliberately invited artists from different cities and countries to encourage artistic exchange and strengthen the local scene. The goal was to revitalize urban spaces and integrate art directly into the everyday life of the city’s residents. Here is a collection of the great pieces made in the alley taken by MAZZANTI. The organizers about the project: „Welcome to the exhibition. An artist- and community-funded mural project with a goal to showcase the work of artists from the global community as well as local. Our mission is to not only expose artists unfamiliar with the region to the beauty of our city, but also to give the people of Seattle an opportunity to experience artwork from across the country and around the world. Belltown and Seattle at large have always had a strong artist community, and it is our desire to shine a light on this and support its continuation. Faced with rapid expansion, gentrification, and general displacement, our community and small businesses are constantly at risk. This also threatens the very existence of our local artists and their ability to continue to live and create in Seattle. Through public artwork, we are not only beautifying our surroundings but also supporting tourism, uplifting local businesses, and promoting community growth.
