Punta Ballena is a picturesque peninsula and popular seaside resort in the Maldonado Department on the Río de la Plata. The region offers a mix of natural beauty, such as the Lussich Arboretum and Laguna del Sauce, and beautiful beaches, such as Solanas and Chihuahua. The place is best known in the art world for the artist CARLOS PÁEZ VILARÓ, who lived there. His art collection and museum are very interesting, but the most breathtaking masterpiece is the building „Casapueblo„, which houses the museum, a hotel, and a restaurant. The iconic architectural work of art is reminiscent of a mixture of Greek islands and North African architecture. It is known for its unique construction, which is considered an “organic sculpture”. The artist was born on November 1st in 1923 in the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo and died on February 24th in 2014 in Punta Ballena. Vilaró was active in his creative life in various fields, like as a painter, sculptor, writer, composer and architect.
