SRI LANKA: Negombo Lagoon & Monkey Island – Fishermen Town Boat Journey

The Negombo lagoon is a beautiful place worth visiting to get to know nature and the life of the inhabitants. The initially small fishing village has grown into a large town over the years, but the main income still comes from fishing and fish is omnipresent. All the locals are connected to the fishing business in some way through their work. From sales and transportation or short fishing in the bay, to six-month fishing on large shippers. The lagoon of Negombo provides the town with a special triangle between land, salt water and fresh water. Accordingly, special fish species and plants thrive there. Another special feature is an island on which Toque Macaque Monkeys have settled. The so-called “Monkey Island”. Here we have some photos from the area and also a cool video. There are several options to do those boat trips, they are all more or less alright. But we can definitely recommend the guide DEW and the agency STANLEY TOURS. If you want to see more about the architecture, the temples and the street life in Negombo, check out the page for Negombo Visit. And if you want to see some streetart and graffiti, check out the pages espacially for urban art in the neigbourhoods Kudapaduwa and Thaladuwa.
