SRI LANKA: Matara Reportage – Temple Island, Monuments and Street Life

Matara is a town in southern Sri Lanka with around 43.000 inhabitants and famous for its historic monuments. The Parewi Duwa Temple is located on a small island in front of the city and is one of the most important sights, including the interesting bridge. Matara is also home to one of the largest educational centers in the country, the University of Ruhuna, an extensive complex with various faculties. This place is not really a tourist destination, so there is not a big variety of hotels, but there are quite a lot and good options via guesthouses. If you have some more time for your travels, have a short stop. Here we have a collection of several temples, churches, mosques and historic monuments. Especially for the urban artworks from this place, check out the page Streetart Matara.
