Pelinkovac Mural – Balkan Drink
Pelinkovac, known as Pelin, is a bitter herbal liqueur made from aromatic plants such as anise, fennel, and wormwood, with the Latin name „Artemisia absinthium,“ which is also used in absinthe or slivovitz. Its bitter-sweet notes are created by macerating these herbs in an alcohol base, followed by the addition of sugar and water. The alcohol content varies depending on the variety, but is typically between 28 and 35%. The drink was invented in 1862 by Croatian chemist Franjo Pokorny, who currently founded the company Badels Antique Pelinkovac. Today, many other companies produce the drink, primarily in the Balkans and, of course, in Macedonia. This commissioned mural and the area around were created by local artists DRASH, MAYKA and MIKS.
