What began in Skopje in 2023 has since developed into an ongoing cultural exchange between Nürnberg in Germany and its North Macedonian partner city. Under the name SPREJ GRAD, graffiti, hip-hop culture and international exchange come together. The first fantastic jam took place from 14th to 16th July 2023, marking the beginning of the initiative. At the approximately 80-metre-long wall of “Dimitar Miladinov” Primary School in Skopje, artists from both cities created a large-scale mural together. From Nürnberg came THOR, SHEM, AKST, HOMBRE and FOKUS, while the Skopje artists were DRASH, MACHKA, RASK, VUTAR, DREADPEN, MIKS and WORM.
The resulting artworks combine different graffiti styles and streetart techniques while also referring to the history of the city. One central theme is the 1963 Skopje earthquake, whose 60th anniversary was commemorated in 2023. The long-standing partnership between Nürnberg and Skopje was also incorporated into the artistic concept. The project was complemented by an exhibition of prints by the participating artists and a graffiti workshop for young people at the Jadro Cultural Centre.
Later on the journey continued. In 2024, Sprej Grad came to Nürnberg . A new collaborative artwork by artists from both cities was created in the Langwasser district. The project was also accompanied by the Sprej Grad Jam, featuring live graffiti, breakdancing, hip-hop and workshops. Then in 2025, the Jam returned to Nürnberg for its third edition. At the grounds of ASN Pfeil Phönix. And on 5th September 2026, Sprej Grad returns to Nürnberg once again, continuing the connection that began with a school wall in Skopje in 2023. That year also the legendary movie Whole Train was shown due to it’s 20th anniversary. Here are the works from the 2023 edition, check out as well the huge school mural around the corner.
