The mural shows the village of Monimbo in Nicaragua from 1978, this is also the title. The work of art was painted in 1985 and renewed in 2005 after a renovation. The giant picture „Nicaraguan Village – Monimbó 1978“ tells of the liberation war against the Somoza dictatorship. Painter Manuel García Moia was born on June 13, 1936 in Monimbó, the Indian quarter of Masaya.
Moia has been an honorary citizen of Masaya and Monimbó since 1989. In the relatively short period of time from 1979 to 1990 his well-known large-format murals were created in Managua, Luiz Alfonso Velasquez Kinderpark (1980), in the Hessian city of Dietzenbach (1981), in the La Marseillaise restaurant, Managua (1984), in Berlin-Lichtenberg (1985) ), in Copenhagen, Dannebrogsgade 24 (1987) and most recently in Miami, Florida (1991).
