LAYER CAKE is a creative project between CHRISTIAN HUNDERTMARK and PATRICK HARTL. They call it an “Artistic Dialogue”. This artwork here on Bülow 97 is shown as part of this project in an urban exhibition curated by URBAN NATION. Means it will be there for a while on the outside walls and everybody can admire. It was opened at 4th of July and will be on the facade till end of 2021, so till 31th of December.
With LAYER CAKE, the two Munich graffiti veterans PATRICK HARTL and CHRISTIAN HUNDERTMARK (C100) combine their talents in a dynamic, painterly dialogue. Christian and Patrick have been experimenting with the fusion of their styles since 2015. The released writing elements of Patrick are penetrated and overlaid by Christian’s hard-edge floating fields. In this way, variations in writing and lines, far fields and concealment, out and departure that appear to be in depth, emerge. Classic themes. The pictures are not planned, they happen. Sweet, crunchy and rich in history – fittingly, the result and the newly formed artist duo of these two old hands got the name LAYER CAKE: A cake with a rich filling. At the same time, more or less by chance, a new concept emerged – the idea of turning one of the most important rules of graffiti, the going-over or crossing (not to paint over the pictures of other writers), and turning it upside down. – Urban Nation

With THE VERSUS PROJECT, both artists continue to spin the idea of LAYER CAKE and invite guest artists to each work of art who also take part in this creative process. Patrick and Christian begin work in their studio, which they send unfinished to the guest artists. These intervene in the painting process without prior consultation and thus do their part. The works are often sent back and forth several times until both LAYER CAKE and the guest artists are satisfied with the result. This creates an artistic dialogue, the canvases become a platform for a discussion on a painterly level. All participants in this project combine their passion and strong reference to style writing, street art and graffiti. – Urban Nation
