Exhibition „California Dreams“

In 2024 the creative festival ÉCLAIRAGE PUBLIC at LE 109 took place from 24th till 26th May with its 8th edition under the title and motto “California Dreams”. Besides music, theater, cinema, performance and art venues, also four vernissages opened: the exhibition by Olivier Millagou and his guests Pajama Party at La Station, the exhibition „Californie d’Azur, territoire du meme“ by the Forum d’Urbanisme et d’Architecture, the exhibition HUMANoïde by the Collectif Le Dôme/Diapo in the Grande Halle and the exhibition with the same name like the festival edition CALIFORNIA DREAMS by A-CENTRAL (Plasticiens du 109 / City of Nice) on Quai de Turin, which is the walkway along the Grande Halle. „Réhabilitation des Anciens Abattoirs de Sanremo en Centre Artisanal et Chantier Naval“ – PRÌA

This artwork is from 2024 and named „Réhabilitation des Anciens Abattoirs de Sanremo en Centre Artisanal et Chantier Naval“, which means in English „Rehabilitation of Sanremo’s former slaughterhouses into a craft center and shipyard“. It is a model in the proportion 1:400 made out of cork, wood and cocciopesto. From Nice to Liguria, the ‚riviera‘ forms a cross-border territory where a renewal of culture and ways of living is necessary, in the face of the impact of a half-century industrial and tourist logic. The former abattoirs of Sanremo are one of the places that can host a new activity that makes sense today, to breathe new life into a seaside wasteland, and bring together forgotten crafts to make a common project.

„Kalbi takhmami bach y atini Allah“ – „A landscape empty of men“ – CAROLINE TRUCCO

This series of four photographs was produced in Casablanca, Morocco, during the artist’s Ajammar artistic residency in 2018. The title of this work, in Darija, Moroccan Arabic dialect, evokes the beliefs practiced on the island of Sidi Sidi Abderhamane. It is taken from a litany used by the island’s fortune-tellers, with whom the artist collaborated. For the artist, this photographic work is akin to a phase of appropriation of the territory, that of the island located on Casablanca’s corniche and its surroundings, close to the Californie district in particular. This work presents a series of planes and landscapes empty of people and open to the horizon. Presences are evoked by the fragments and arrangements of objects that people store or fashion. Spontaneous scenarios of everyday life, captured by the artist, translate the possibilities of being in the world and inhabiting a place. These depopulated landscapes also evoke the solitude of the „foreign“ walker and his wanderings. These are times when the artist combines walking, photography and writing.

It piles up, compacts, forming a multitude of reliefs as diverse and complex as our humanities, leaving the viewer free to rediscover, as if buried and resurgent, the living space of the construction of a State in its memories.
