Tampere – Hiedanranta – Spraycankontrol & Meeting Of Styles

Hiedanranta is an old factory area west of Tampere and a real oasis of urban art. Countless great works can be found on the walls and huge murals on the old warehouse buildings. In 2018 the event SPRAYCANKONTROL took place in combination with the legendary jam series MEETING OF STYLES and some works from this event are still there, but of course new graffiti are also being created regularly.

The Finnish border town of Tornio is basically part of a twin city that is closely connected to its Swedish counterpart Haparanda. The Swedish-Finnish border runs right through the middle of the town. This article is about urban art on the Finnish side of Tornio. The whole area is very famous for salmon fishing, because it is a major breeding and passing ground for these animals. But it is also a place of creative “breeding” and development of art and paint on the walls. Especially the HORIZONT collective has done its best with many artworks to make the streets more colorful.

Oulu has around 210,000 inhabitants and is the largest city in northern Finland, as well as a student center. The city is famous for the annual air guitar world championship Mieskuoro Huutajat, the Qstock rock festival has taken place every July since 2003 and Oulu has been chosen as European Capital of Culture for 2026. Porosalmi is a northern part of the municipality Rantasalmi on the coast of Lake Haukivesi, which is part of the Saimaa lake system, also adjacent is the Linnansaari National Park.
