CYPRUS: Scuplture Park Ayia Napa – Astonishing Artworks on an 20.000 m² area

Besides the wonderful beaches and the extensive night live, the town of Ayia Napa offers also some culture stuff and fabulous sculptured artworks on an 20.000 m² area. The Sculpture Park in Ayia Napa was built in 2014 and every year they organize a Symposium where sculptor artists from all around the world can participate. That means the park is growing every year with some new fantastic objects. We tried to document nearly all of them.

The art area was initiated by the Municipality of Ayia Napa and through the creation of this project they want to promote art and culture. The inauguration of the Sculpture Park was held on May 10th in 2014 by the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Yannis Karousos.

At the 1st Sculpture Symposium from 23th April till 10th May in 2014 fourteen distinguished sculptors from Greece and Cyprus, also members of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece (EETE) and the Chamber of Fine Arts of Cyprus (EKA-TEK) were doing their awesome work at the sculpture park.

At some point in the Sculputure Park the Park of Mediterranean Forty, Cactus and Succulents Park starts. The cactus park comes more in the back, but you can find a lot of sculptures also there, and the sticky plants are also found in the front. The two parks are overlapping and combining each other. The cactus area is an extension of the sculpture area and is also a work in progress, which hosts different types of cactus as well as dried plant varieties of Cyprus.

Contributors of the vision for the reconstruction of the Sculpture Park: Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Yiannis Karousos  –  Members of the City Council  –  Kikis Konstantinou  –  The Cultural Officer of the Municipality, Mrs. Maria Tofini Tsantila – Sculpture Park in Ayia Napa.

The Sculpture Park is located at the crossroads of Akrotiri Cavo Greco and Kriou Nero Avenue. It is below the Kavo Gkreko Road and above the Love Bridge with two entrances, one on the north side and one on the west side. We spend quite some time there and took a lot of photos, so recommendations are to wear something on your head, put on sunscreen and take enough water with you. If you dive into the sculpture world, you can spend hours at that place. Best time would be late afternoon till you get the sunset.
