The year was 2009 when the GAM was being repaired and rebuilt after destruction due to a large fire on 2006. Its entire perimeter was covered with chipboard so as not to interfere with the reconstruction inside. Prominent artists from Chile and Europe left their works captured in these exterior walls. Around the perimeter of the GAM on Villavicencio Street and also along a pedestrian crossing in front of Luciano Kulczewski Street that reaches the main entrance of the GAM through Avenue Bernardo O’Higgins, there was also a lot of remarkable street art.
The first work is an eclectic creation by KILTRV CREW. It begins with miners’ protests and strikes alongside Picasso-style figures, moving to an image of machines and the capital destroying nature. Then you can see a large protest and in the front women in charge of soup kitchen for the dispossessed people marching. The mural ends with the vision of a young man seeking freedom and fighting for his rights, and a large KILTRV tag.
Then, a solitary work by MONOTONO AILA appears, where the intensity of the bird and the fire mix with a background of stokes and straight lines of architectural style.
We have another mural from the KILTRV CREW, here each member expressing themselves freely: we start with SANTANA’s head and his signature on the figure’s hair; a flop by NASKA that looks like a fungus releasing spores. Next another flop that says “We Are C3” done by NEBS PEREIRA. Then figures with lot of circles painted by TALLER PANCORA and represented by NAO.
The artist PIGUAN draw a three-eyed figure and finally a beautiful redhead woman done by RAYNE. After the flop that says “POP”, we can see graffiti by WKLA or WAKALA, a crew composed by ZED, JEKSE, SETOK, HER and PIGUAN.
A flop comes that says “AMAGO” and then graffiti that has the tag “PUERKO” in common.
Finally, we have the foreign artists who left their mark on the GAM. We have artists associated with SPACEJUNK of Grenoble, like NKDM and NICOLAS THOMAS, and also other artists associated with GKo and XTRM, for example, XABIER ANUNZIBAI, GARIKOITZ MURUA and IBAI KADAK.
