The first photo indicates the order of the description that I am making of the 3 different graffiti found here. In the first graffiti there is a Copihue (Lapageria rosea) or Chilean Bellflower, along with two Piñones or pine nuts, which is the fruit of the Araucaria or Pehuén. The background is white with a light blue stripe. This graffiti is a community mural as it was made by the residents of “Los Copihues”, which is the name of this area of Angol.
The second graffiti that has the title “Mural Participativo Los Copihues” written in the upper left corner, it was made by the artists PAULA TIKAY and ANER. Together they created an allegory of the Mapuche world, and in particular of the Copihue, where a woman with copihue earrings is seen extending her hands to honor the copihue. The Mapuche woman is accompanied by a puma, and several araucarias are also distinguished. The araucaria is the sacred tree of the Mapuche people.
PAULA TIKAY is a painter, designer and artisan. She has a project dedicated to painting and engraving with Mapuche motifs, her Pichimallin Workshop.
ANER was one of the founders of ALAPINTA in 2004. However, he currently works with TIKAY. Working together, it has signified to bring out the best of both.
The third graffiti by unknown artist is a beautiful expressionism art. Here it is showing the entire Mapuche worldview: the Wallmapu or ancestral territory including the araucaria forest, a woodpecker and a volcano, the Machi or religious leader praying nature, and the warrior surrounded by his symbols and customs.
