The great artist Priscila Fernández Tillería or PRI works on murals related to the Mapuche people imbued in their habitat of Araucanía or Wallmapu. You can find her signature in many of the graffiti in Angol.
In 2014, PRI, together with the Colonia Manuel Rodríguez school, the Municipality of Angol and other NGOs, painted this mural with 13 to 15 year old children, which included the process of artistic creation and also the expression of relevant themes for the community of Angol, as a method to support children in conditions of disadvantage and poverty.
At both ends of this mural, we can see the influence of the BRIGADA RAMONA PARRA, an icon of Chilean muralism, on PRI’s work. She worked for a time with a BRP crew in the south of Chile.
The mural is located at an important intersection, where the train used to pass and today there are intercity buses. The mural shows the Mapuche worldview, the flora and fauna of the Wallmapu, the crafts and the Mapuche symbols. – Salvador J. Seda – Angol – December 2020
