The graffiti has a syncretism between the Mapuche culture (the nail called “clava” that is at the neck) and the Polynesian culture (the feathers that are on the head of the figure). The Polynesian culture is also in the Chilean imagination, since from 1888 Easter Island or Rapa Nui is a territory of Chile.
This graffiti has the signature “Quarzo” which relates to the artist collective QUARZO GROUP and the date 2014, what you can see on the last photograph where the feet appear. QUARZO GROUP is made up of four members, all based in Valdivia. One of them is Claudio Voitmann. He is a native of Angol, who in 2014 alone made this wonderful graffiti of an enigmatic figure. The other members are Javier San Martin, Luis Chavez Kappes and Carlos Escuvier Urra. Each of their blog pages are linked in the Infothek. They are not up to date, but still filled with interesting articles, making of posts and great streetart content.
