CHILE: Streetart Angol – Bilbao 129 – COORDINADORA FEMINISTA ANGOL

As indicated in the post made in March 2021 with the previous artworks by COORDINADORA FEMINISTA ANGOL, this is the place where women gather to express their rights.

That is why on this November 25th, on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, a campaign organized worldwide by the United Nations, the COORDINADORA FEMINISTA ANGOL organized several events in the city. Among many acts, this mural was repainted with the participation of several volunteers, girls and women from the community.

When comparing both art works, the change in the colors of the figure of the pregnant and reclining woman stands out, as well as the addition of flowers, leaves and even a bird under the title “Partos Respetados” (Respected Births), the original name of the mural.

The creators of this mural are the Angol Feminist Group called COORDINADORA FEMINISTA ANGOL, a organization that brings together and assembles women for the feminist struggle. Women of all ages participated in the mural painting, including girls. Now this mural is the meeting place for all feminist claims in Angol.

The main theme of the mural is “Partos Respetados” (Respected Births), as can be seen written on the far left, at the feet of the pregnant woman. The reclining interior figure is a pregnant woman, where issues of “Information”, “Rights” and “Love” are emphasized, and the lunar cycle is drawn above the pregnant woman.

This mural is presented here in two contrasting photographic stages. It all starts in November 2020 on the occasion of the International Day on the Elimination of Violence against Women, when this collective mural begins to be created. By December 19 in 2020, on the occasion of the International Day against Femicide, the graffiti was finished in its first stage. Finally, the painting of the mural was completed before the International Women’s Day, as seen in the photo with the 8M symbol, at the far right of the mural. On March 8 in 2021, women gathered in front of the mural, they organized around their themes and they started their march of commemoration to downtown.
