The Liner
The artists used the shape of the building and its structures to create a very successful trompe l’oeil mural, means optical illusion artwork. The festive side of the work clashes greatly with the dull and industrial environment of this sector of Montreal. This great mural with a historical flavor is part of a series that chronicles the life of the neighborhood and the merchants of Rue Notre Dame in Lachine. This street is still one of the major commercial axes of the Lachine borough located west of downtown Montreal. The murals were all made by an artist duo called ART DU COMMUN and this collective consists of Montreal artists JASMIN GUÉRARD ALIE and SIMON BACHAND who regularly team up for colorful urban creations. The project aims to embellish and energize Rue Notre Dame. It also recalls the village past of this area long away from the city. – Patrice Loranger
