Tribute to Alanis Obomsawin
This great mural was made by MEKY OTTAWA and RAFAEL SOTTOLICHIO as a tribute to ALANIS OBOMSAWIN who is a Canadian multidisciplinary artist of Abenaki origin. Singer, storyteller, filmmaker, engraver, she is often considered one of Canada’s cultural builders. At the end of the 1960s, she began a fruitful collaboration with the National Film Board of Canada. She directed several films on the culture and history of Aboriginal peoples in Canada. Her films on the 1990 Oka crisis made her known throughout the world.
The artist won several international awards and awakened the world to the problems and struggle of indigenous peoples in our country. ALANIS OBOMSAWIN is an Officer of the Order of Canada, Grand Officer of the National Order of Quebec and Commander of the Order of Montreal.
