This page here is about a place dubbed The Castle by street artists, graffiti artists and other insiders. The place is located about 50 minutes from Montréal by car. Actually it is a former military NORAD surveillance base which is meanwhile decommissioned. The area is located on top of a hill at the end of a small road in the woods. A perfect place to go to spend a beautiful day in the countryside while practicing art.
The place is quite isolated and in a charming mid-mountain setting. Artists often take the opportunity to stretch the fun around a campfire with a few good beers and food to grill to enjoy the warm summer evenings. We are here in the heart of the Laurentians tourist region. It is the playground of Montrealers in need of nature and fresh air.
A few kilometers from The Castle, the charming village of Saint-Adolphe-d’Howard is asleep by its lake. You can hire ambarquations there for a small relaxing cruise on the lake. The sectors are full of hiking trails for lovers of mountain walking. In winter, many alpine ski resorts await winter sports enthusiasts. Nordic ski and snowshoe trails are also available.
I spent my childhood and my adolescence in this mountains having fun on two boards. Even today I go there quite often for hikes, for a day of snowboarding or simply to get some fresh air. I recommend a day of outdoors in the area during a stay in Montreal. A detour through The Castle is a must for street art lovers.
