An architectural, artistic and historical highlight of the Austrian capital Vienna that you should definitely have seen is the Hundertwasserhaus. The “somewhat different” building is a residential complex in Vienna built from 1983 to 1985 and is located on the corner of Kegelgasse and Löwengasse.
It was designed by the creative and different-thinking artist and architect FRIEDRICH STOWASSER aka FRIENDENSREICH HUNDERTWASSER, who lived from 1928 to 2000. The colorful and unusual house has uneven floors and in 1985 about 250 trees and shrubs were planted. Since then they have grown into a real park on the roofs of the house.
The construction does not follow the usual norms of architecture, simply different and visually fascinating. Obviously you can see HUNDERTWASSER‘s role models like at the front the famous thinker and architect Antoni Gaudi, as well the Palais idéal of Ferdinand Cheval, the Watts Towers and the Anonymous Architectures of the Allotment Gardens. Across the street from the building is the Hundertwasser Village which you should also pay a visit to.
